YARDS & WAREHOUSES
When it comes to shipping and transport of goods on professional scale, the three ranking modes of transport remains ships, railroads, and trucks.
And while trucking offers the most flexibility as far as routes are concerned, when considered in terms of actual ton-miles hauled per unit of consumed energy, sending goods by rail remains the most cost efficient means of transportation there is.
If you’re going big, heavy,
or in bulk – then you’re
probably going by rail…
RAIL CONNECTED YARDS
Additional economies can be realized when shipping bulk commodities, particularly when hauled over long distances. Bulk shipments are less affected by transshipment costs, with distances as low as 20 miles being sufficient to make rail transport economically viable.
Ever since containerization revolutionize cargo shipping, Intermodal Freight Transport cargo using standard ISO containers are loaded and sealed intact, moving from container ships to railroad cars, and then onto trucks.

A reasonably significant percentage of the property transactions conducted by the Elden Company includes warehouse facilities and yards that have private rail spurs that are directly connected to the primary rail transportation lines, and subsequently to the entire transport network operated by major railroad companies.
Business operations that utilize rail line connections include the shipping of ISO containers, bulk freight carried in tank cars, or in other types of specialized railcars.
Whether you’re shipping steel, lumber, paper products, materials or plastic fabrication, aggregates, automobiles, biodiesel fuel, cooking oils, refrigerated products, or any other industrial scale materials that can take advantage of economies provided by the rail transport system, then Elden Company is your best source for securing real estate in service of those operations.

BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) plans to invest an estimated $120 million on maintenance and rail capacity improvement projects in Southern California this year.
BNSF is developing a fully automated gate system at its LA Hobart Intermodal Facility to increase the volume, velocity, safety of container/trailer processing.
BNSF also continues its robust track maintenance program in California, which will include 786 miles of track surfacing and undercutting work, the replacement of 80 miles of rail and about 377,000 ties, as well as signal upgrades for federally mandated positive train control
The planned capital investments in California are a significant portion of BNSF’s total projected 2020 fiscal commitment of $4.3 billion.
The largest component of the capital plan is spending $2.8 billion on BNSF’s core network and related assets.
BNSF also plans to spend approximately $1.6 billion on locomotive, freight car, and other equipment acquisitions, much of which will be serving California based operations, and primarily in the Southern California transportation corridors servicing the Port Of Los Angeles/Long Beach.
